Don’t let me lose sight of what You are doing
The world vainly calls me to follow their lead
But without Your help, I could not keep going
It’s You that I long for, Lord, it’s You that I need
I wrote those words years ago, but every day, I become more aware of how much I need Him.
Those who have health, wealth, and everything their hearts desire often miss out on knowing the sweetness of close communion with the Lord.
Give me neither poverty nor riches—
Feed me with the food allotted to me;
Lest I be full and deny You,
And say, “Who is the Lord?”
Or lest I be poor and steal,
And profane the name of my God. ~Proverbs 30:8-9
I don’t know who Agur is (the person quoted above), but there is a lot of wisdom to be found in those words. For many, the pursuit of riches has consumed them, but I want to be like the Apostle Paul who said:
Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content. ~Philippians 4:11
Now godliness with contentment is great gain. ~1 Timothy 6:6
Lord, let our focus not be on riches, but let us be content with what we have, knowing that You have supplied all our needs (Philippians 4:19) and You will not withhold any good thing from those who walk uprightly (Psalm 84:11). I pray that we will long for You above all else, for it is You that we need above all else. Thank You, Father, for hearing and answering our prayer. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
